This application brings the feeling of what would have been the Victorian age with an advanced technology such as Silverlight, having mixed the "Magic Lantern" which provided the first "film" feeling to the big screen with such technology as Silverlight that brings a similar feeling to our time. With this steam powered silverlight machine you can search through images with Bing Services, use a writablebitmap powered magnifier which is supported by a inverse kinematics mechanical arm, all in a very victorian steampunk style. Hope you like the 'old' feeling it provides and have so much fun as I did coding it.

Monday, February 1, 2010 3:41 AMHi, to use it just write some search words in the"write words here", select the search settings with the left side knobs and press the search button at the top right and see the resulting pictures!! Also, grab the magnifier and see how Silverlight handles mechanics ;) To mention that I did the magnifier effect with a shader initially which looked way cooler but had to take it out because of space... :(

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 12:27 PMA very enjoyable way to browse pictures of Bing. As in many cases the most useless things are the most fun. Congratulations for your excellent work in silverlight, and to have have the grace to build something fun.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 4:0 PMLooks great, but the >300KBytes of images downloaded by this app from http://www.brainsiders.com/mix10k/ kind of spoils it for me.

Thursday, February 4, 2010 4:50 AMHi, anonymous Mr. "Fish" - It goes with the rules to use any external data through services like images, music, or whatever... in fact I implemented a "skin switching" system but had to take out at the end because of size restrictions.

Saturday, February 6, 2010 3:23 PMHi Jose Luis, like I said, looks great, but the 300KBytes of external images spoils it for me. I know it is perfectly within the rules. I would have prefered it if the graphics were half as good, but packed into the 10k ~ Unanimous Fish.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 6:5 AMThanks! :) Feels great to have all this attention & comments so it means my main goal - to surprise both Developers and designers has more or less been reached. Thanks to all who have commented about my entry. Much appreciated! As many people asked about how I compressed all the functionality - inverse kinematics, writable bitmap, bing search, usercontrols, etc.. I have shared through blog posting my experience & techniques applied in compressing the code and also some thoughts "for the future". Hope this satisfies your curiosity. Please would love to hear your feedback at my blog. You can find it at http://silverlightguy.com/ In short - when I have time I'll publish the entry without the final compression applied & also will try to post it with the technique for skin changing & the shader magnifier too. For mr Fish & others, I am sorry you did not think on making use of external resources like I & other clever participants did with images, music, data, xap, etc.. This contest is about creativity and illusion, coding and design and bringing that to the max using whatever the rules allow you to. Everybody chooses its entry style of coding and that should be respected. (point). Keep your bad thoughts out if you did not thought on applying this or other techniques and also think on winning by fair means or, as the organizers say "be nice".

Monday, February 15, 2010 6:59 PMGreat work, and very nice design! I hadn't seen it, but someone told me about it after watching mi "Fractal Viewer" based on 3D-pictures on the Mandelbrot Set. It uses the same tech to zoom pictures (WriteableBitmap), but nothing like your design...)) Very good luck at the contest! Marino
